When did you decide to begin running marathons in memoriam to your brother? Until after the second marathon in Hawaii when I said to myself, "I should make a goal to run in all 50 states in memoryof my brother," because it makes me look forward to something, keeps me busy, and builds my spirit. Doing this will keep my brother's name alive.
What inspires you to continue to work hard and reach your goal? Sending a message to both young and old that if you set your mind to something that you'd like to achieve, you have to put your mind to it and don't be afraid, because taking the risk makes a difference. It takes you beyond your dreams. I work hard for what I want to accomplish and the goals I am striving to complete. My inspiration to keep working hard is my beloved brother the most and all of my supporters. I make a positive impact on my communities and those that I meet on my marathon trips. I will not let you down. This also brings my spirit to life knowing that I'm getting closer to accomplishing my goal by knocking down one state at a time.
How do you prepare for your marathon races? All year round I run at least 65 miles per week. During the summer times I run outdoors on hills mostly, which really effects me the most during the 26.2 mile race. I notice that I am getting stronger and faster as each day passes. During the long, cold, and treacherous winter days I run laps in the gym (22=1 mile and I do between 132-576.4 laps a day/ 7 days a week). I am strong mentally, physically, and emotionally.
What goals do you have for the future outside of finishing your marathons? My major goal is to graduate with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. My other goals are to go bungee jumping, rock climbing, be on national television, qualify for the marathon olympics, and to run the 1000 mile Iditarod race in Anchorage-Nome.
Do you have any words you want to share with kids from native villages who want to achieve their dreams? Don't be afraid to go out there and explore the world. You have to set your minds to future education or training. See the school counselors for school or training applications and scholorship information. If your qualified all your expenses can be paid. You just have to complete what your doing and go out and fill those work positions. You can become future leaders to organize our village and see a lot of positive impact to better health, safety, and security for our people and youth. Don't hesitate. Remember this saying from my beloved brother, Jerel Redfox, ""You can say it, but can you do it?". This also gives me motivation to work hard and strive for my goals.
